DESCRIPTION:Meet our Speaker \n\n\nCaitlin Jones\, Esq.\n\nCaitlin M. Jones is a trial attorney focusing on professional liability\, ethics\, and business litigation. She has tried more than a dozen jury trials and over thirty bench trials to verdict. Caitlin has an extensive professional liability practice representing lawyers\, insurance brokers\, and other professionals against claims of malpractice\, ethical violations\, and breaches of fiduciary duty. Caitlin also represents attorney clients with the defense of Bar complaints and other disciplinary matters\, and represents insurance agents and brokers in professional licensing matters before the Department of Insurance. Caitlin consults for law firms and lawyers on issues of compliance with State Bar reporting and the Rules of Professional Conduct. For business clients\, Caitlin is adept at resolving a wide array of issues through every stage of litigation. Caitlin has represented corporate clients in such diverse matters as trade secrets litigation\, breach of contract\, fraud\, partnership disputes\, counterfeit and trademark infringement\, injury to business reputation\, and more. For each client\, Caitlin builds a unique strategy and litigation plan designed to resolve the case in alignment with the client’s goals. Caitlin is the 2026 Vice Chair of the San Diego County Bar Association Legal Ethics Committee and regularly speaks on issues of ethics and professional responsibility. \nCaitlin obtained her Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University Law School. While in law school\, Caitlin won the pro bono service award and served as an intern and law clerk at both the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice. At GWU Law School\, Caitlin was the first recipient of the Howard J. Rudge Creative Solutions Prize for her paper proposing a nationwide apprenticeship program coupled with targeted tax incentives as a solution to high unemployment rates and the concurrent strain on federal entitlement programs. \nUpon graduating\, Caitlin gained substantial trial experience as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami\, Florida. As a Miami-Dade ASA\, Caitlin worked in the County Court and Juvenile divisions\, handling a large case load of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases. Prior to joining Pettit Kohn\, Caitlin worked as an associate at a boutique litigation firm in Miami specializing in complex business litigation \n\nETHICS OF PERSONNEL CHANGE: LATERALS\,\nMERGERS\, & DEPARTURES\n[1.0 Hours of CLE Credit]\nThis program examines the ethical issues California law firms face when lawyers change firms\, law firms merge\, and when lawyers depart from their firms. The program addresses areas of high ethical and professional risk\, including importing and checking for conflicts of interest\, setting up ethical screens\, maintaining client confidentiality through transitions\, protecting client choice of counsel\, required client communications\, proper transfer of files and client property\, fee-setting\, fee-sharing\, and compensation issues\, and the protection of both clients and the firm during transitions.
